Los
Angeles County MTA has unveiled the first of 50 new P2550 articulated
light rail vehicles built by Italian manufacturer AnsaldoBreda,
Inc.
The cars will
begin revenue service along the Metro Gold Line in late 2005 or
early 2006. Costing $2.9 million each, the 90-foot 2550s will be
the first LRVs that can operate on all three MTA light rail lines,
Among the new features not included in other Los Angeles LRVs: camera
security system; a GPS system that provides automatic time-stamping
of all major sub-systems; onboard hardware and software that improves
fleet management capabilities; an IGBT a.c.-drive propulsion system
